SBi TO PARTICIPATE AT THE XIVTH CONGRESS OF THE FEDERATION OF EUROPEAN SOCIETIES FOR SURGERY OF THE HAND
- SBi continues to expand its upper limb product lin
- SBi introduces two new versions of Elektra cups as well as Precise SVP
NEW YORK, NY: June
3, 2009 - Small Bone Innovations,
Inc. (SBi), a leading provider of innovation, products, technology
and education for the small bone & joint segment of the
orthopedics industry, will exhibit hand-related products at
the XIVth Congress of the Federation of European Societies
for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) in Poznan, Poland from June
3rd through June 6th. FESSH was founded in 1990 and consists
of the hand societies of over 20 countries throughout Europe.
The company’s hand-related products, including two new versions of its Elektra thumb implant cups and the Precise SVP distal radius fracture plate, will be displayed at Booth #42-44.
Anthony G. Viscogliosi, Chairman & CEO of SBi, said “The company’s presence at FESSH underscores the importance of this Congress to our surgeon-users throughout the world. Our rapidly expanding international business is a crucial part of our vision to become the global leader in small bone and joint arthroplasty and reconstruction.”
Elektra, a metal-on-metal ball and socket implant, has been available internationally for 10 years and has been implanted in over 6,000 patients. SBi is introducing two additional versions of Elektra cups to augment the standard implant. One new version will feature threaded titanium instead of cobalt chrome on the exterior surface. Titanium facilitates better bone in-growth.
The other new Elektra offering features a press-fit cup. This version is the smallest cup of its kind on the market as it doesn’t have threads on the exterior surface. “Consequently, we believe this implant expands the potential patient pool as there is a limited amount of bone in the trapeziometacarpal joint,” Mr. Viscogliosi added.
Dr. Regnard, who practices at the Clinique Fontaine in Dijon, France, is the inventor of the Elektra line of thumb implants.
The Precise SVP, a volar plate indicated for distal radius fractures, will also be introduced at FESSH. This fixed angle, low-profile anatomically designed plate is made out of stainless steel and uses stainless steel screws. “With Precise SVP and Precise SD, our titanium plate, SBi is now able to provide volar plates that suit market preferences throughout the world. Precise SVP is available in 5 sizes for left and right configurations, Mr. Viscogliosi said.
Professor Liverneaux of the Centré Hospitalier et Universitaire, in Strasbourg, France invented the Precise SVP and will be available to discuss the device with interested surgeons at the SBi booth during FESSH.
Florian Kemmerich, President of SBi International, said “These are significant additions to our upper limb product portfolio which will assist surgeons better meet the needs of their patients. Market introductions of the two new versions of Elektra cups and the Precise SVP distal radius fracture plate are expected to benefit sales this year.”
Surgeons mentioned in this release provide intellectual property and consulting services to SBi.
