The Artelon®
CMC Spacer Arthro is a woven, textile device made of Artelon
fibers. The device is biocompatible, degradable and made of polycaprolactone-based
polyurethaneurea (PUUR). The device is intended to be implanted
into the first carpometacarpal joint (CMC), as an interpositional
spacer between the trapezial bone and the first metacarpal bone.
The Artelon® CMC Spacer Arthro
is a T-shaped device, where vertical portion separates the trapezial
and the metacarpal bone of the CMC joint. The horizontal portion
can be used to fixate the device. With the less invasive arthroscopic
approach, the anatomy and movement of the CMC joint is left nearly
intact.
In vivo biocompatibility studies of the material have shown no signs
of adverse tissue reactions inflammation or foreign body response.
