Artelon® Spacer
CMC Spacer LG is developed for patients with thumb base osteoarthritis,
(OA). Artelon® Spacer
CMC-I is a T-shaped, woven construction made of Artelon fibers.
The device is patented and CE-marked*.
Artelon® Spacer CMC-I is designed to achieve both resurfacing
and stabilization of the osteoarthritic trapeziometacarpal (TMC)
joint. The TMC joint is also named carpometacarpal joint, CMC-I.
The purpose of the vertical portion is to separate the surfaces of
the arthritic joint and to act as a spacer between the trapezium
and the first metacarpal. The horizontal portion acts to stabilize
the joint and thereby prevent subluxation.
By using Artelon® Spacer CMC-I the trapezial bone will not be
removed, thus keeping the anatomy of the hand intact. This avoids
shortening or restricted mobilization of the thumb. Surgery is performed
under regional anesthesia.
